Nama Ventures is a Saudi-based venture capital fund that focuses on investing in early-stage technology startups within the MENA region.[1]
History
Nama Ventures was founded in 2019 by its managing partner, Mohammed Alzubi. That same year, the fund participated in the "Invest in Saudi" delegation at the Web Summit.[3][4] The fund was established to address the funding gap for early-stage technology startups in the MENA region.[5]
Alzubi has a background in technology investments, having worked at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and co-founded TechWadi, a nonprofit organization that connects Arab-American tech entrepreneurs with resources and networks in Silicon Valley, California.[6][7]
Since its inception, Nama Ventures has invested in over 45 companies across sectors such as fintech, proptech, entertainment tech, and legal tech.[8]
The fund has made notable investments including Salla,[9] Tamara,[10] Calo,[11] Rize,[12] BrevDev,[13] and others.[14][15][16][17][18]
BrevDev, backed by Nama Ventures in June 2022, was later acquired by Nvidia.[19][20][21]
The fund also backed Nigeria’s Y Combinator-backed startup, Termii.[22]
In December 2024, alongside A15, Sanabil 500 Global, and angel investors, Nama Ventures co-led a $1.7 million seed round for Nowlun to support its expansion and enhance its freight forwarding technology in MENA.[23]
