Namal Jayasinghe is an award-winning actor, director, screenwriter, educator, known for his work in Sahodaraya (2017), Pithru (2022) and August Sun (2003). He has also directed theatre plays and TV commercials. Known as an all-rounder, his work is characterised by emphasis on social and political themes of post-war Sri Lanka.

His screenplay has won numerous awards and recognition across audiences.
The screenplay for the popular teleseries 'Sathya' drew particular criticism with its abrupt and open ending. Much discussion ensued that with it being a political drama with topical discussions that it had been forced to stop due to government pressures. However, speaking at several interviews, the Director said that this was clearly intended and deliberate act by Namal to give a message to the audience - which said that we shouldn't wait for the actors in the series to be heroic, we should act and be heroes in our own society to effect change.

Beyond acting[edit]
Namal alongside the renowed actress Kaushalya Fernando has launched a diploma theatre programme under her organisation (LCYTF - Lanka Children's and Youth Theatre Foundation, Act No 3 of 2007) for those interested in drama and theatre. The programme will allow prospective students to learn first hand from the experienced personnel in respective fields and the prime intention of the programme is to provide a learning platform to produce creative artiste who will be well versed in acting, scriptwriting, directing and dance theatre.[18][19]

In 2014, he was also awarded the prestigious 21st Bunka Cultural Award, organised by the Japan-Sri Lanka Cultural Fund, it recognises creative activities in culture and arts.[20]
