Nambi The Scientist is a 2018 Malayalam documentary on Nambi Narayanan written and directed by Prajesh Sen.
Plot
The film traces Nambi's life from his childhood to his student days at Coimbatore Engineering College to his humble beginnings at Thumba Equatorial Launching Station (TERLS) where he joined the 20-member team on September 12, 1966. He was one among the five scientists in the team under Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme. The others in the team were Majeed, P Sudhakaran, C R Sathya and APJ Abdul Kalam. The documentary also brings out the fact that Nambi was the first serving scientist in the history of ISRO who was given permission to go abroad for higher studies.
Making
'Nambi the Scientist' also contains footage of Nambi shot during the 1970s and rare clippings of his family. This 30-minute biopic, which is directed by Prajesh Sen, is an attempt to bring out the 'truth veiled by a cloud of lies', while focusing on Nambi's distinguished career. "The documentary film focuses more on the scientific pursuit and contributions of Nambi Narayanan. It also looks into the conspiracy over the ISRO spy case and the loss to the country because India went back by over 15 years to develop indigenous cryogenic technology."
