Nana Kwadwo

Nana Kwadwo Tweneboa-Kodua (born 31 May 2004), most commonly known as Nk or Nana Kwadwo Tk, is a digital artist and designer from Accra, Ghana. His work is centered around empowering Black culture through Afrofuturism.[1][2]

Career

In 2016 or 2017 Nk began creating 2D art pieces on a mobile phone he had at home.[1][3] He got his first laptop and Adobe Photoshop in 2017.[4] He began posting art online in 2021. During the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to refocus his art on Afrofuturism.[4][5]

In 2022 Nk created "Modernization I", which set the pace for his journey in exploring Afrofuturism through art. Nk uses textured Black three-dimensional figures in his art, which represent the people of Africa, and places these figures in futuristic worlds and scenes.[6] That same year, Nk released a collection of hand-made jute tote bags which had his artworks printed on them.[7]

In 2023 Nigerian director Korede Azeez partnered with Nk to create artwork for the Netflix short film Halima's Choice.[8][better source needed] Nk has expressed interest in finding ways to incorporate augmented reality and artificial intelligence into his art.[3]

Exhibitions

In 2022 Nk's works were included in Google Arts and Culture Climate change exhibition with the African Leadership Academy,[9] and his work "A New Era of Discovery" was featured at Nairobi Design Week with New Comma.[citation needed]

In 2023 Nk exhibited with the Mecenate Fine Art Gallery in the Plastic Futures Exhibition in Rome,[10] Y3 Wo Ha group exhibition with The BLK Experience London at the Nubuke Foundation, Ghana,[citation needed] Illuminating the Beauty of Science virtual exhibition with Suboart Magazine,[11] International Emerging Artists Exhibition(Emergent Art Space),[12] and Ajifa Online Gallery.[13]

Awards

Nk received the Creative Discovery of the year award at the Artpreciate Creative Awards 2022.[15]
