Nancy Wilson (scout)
Nancy Wilson MBE (died 1959), known as Akela Wilson, was a New Zealand Scouting leader.
Biography
Wilson was born in Bulls, the daughter of James Wilson (later Sir James Wilson) and Annie Wilson (née Adams). She became involved in the Scouting movement in 1919 when she became Scoutmaster of the Bulls troop. She later held many leadership roles, including Dominion Cub Commissioner, within the movement and became known as 'Akela Wilson'.
In 1953, Wilson was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal.[1] In the 1954 Queen's Birthday Honours, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services as New Zealand Commissioner for Cubs and to scouting.[2] She died in 1959.
