Nanda Kirati Dewan is an Indian Gorkha leader and journalist from Assam. Dewan was appointed as the president of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BGYP), the youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, the national social organisation of Indian Gorkhas, with additional charge as National Secretary (Youth Affairs) in their national meet in Dehradun in August 2019.[2]
Career
He was the Information & Publicity Secretary of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) and Spokesperson of Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee (GACDC), spearheading the Gorkha Autonomous Council (GAC) and Gorkha's indigenous status demand in Assam.[3]
Activism
Assam NRC

Demanding inclusion of Indian Gorkha communities in Assam NRC, Dewan said that they will not go to Foreigners’ Tribunals (FTs), and instead take legal recourse if any community member has to attend such a trial for being excluded from the NRC.[4][5]
Nepali language movement
Dewan demanded a full-fledged Department of Nepali literature inside the Bodoland University.[6]
Indigenous community status demand for Gorkhas
Dewan has called on the government to recognize Gorkha community as an indigenous community across the country so that constitutional rights, including land rights of Gorkhas, are protected.[7]

Other works
Dewan extended his help to Indian and Gorkha origin mountaineers wanting to take up the challenge of mountaineering, and he was a close aide of Indian mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa.[8][9]
