Nanjing Airlines was an airline based in Nanjing, founded in 1988 and ceasing operations in 2003.
History
Nanjing Airlines Co., Ltd. was formerly known as Nanjing Airlines and China United Airlines Nanjing Company (referred to as "China United Airlines Nanjing Company"). In 1987, Nanjing Municipal Tourism Bureau established the Ministry of Aviation by its subsidiary company Nanjing Tourism Service Associates (Nanjing Tourism Services Associates Aviation Department, hereinafter referred to as Nanlv Ministry of Aviation), and organized forces with the assistance of the Air Force of the Nanjing Military Region to conduct research on Xi’an Aircraft Company and Yunqi aircraft, select the model, and order two 52-seat Yun-qi 100 optional aircraft, which were named by the Nanjing Municipal Government "Zijin" and "Zhongshan". In December 1987, the Nanjing Municipal Government and the Air Force of the Nanjing Military Region signed the "Agreement on the Support of the Air Force of the Nanjing Military Region to the Development of Air (Tourism) Transportation by the Nanjing Municipal Government". According to the agreement, the Air Force selected 45 air and ground personnel to form the Yunqi Professional Squadron, and conducted a series of adaptive training on the aircraft. In July 1988, China United Airlines, operated by the Air Force, agreed with the Southern Brigade Aviation Department to join the United Airlines organization. On August 5, the Nanjing Municipal Government formally approved the establishment of Nanjing Airlines based on the Ministry of Aviation of China Southern Travel Service, marking the beginning of the local aviation business. In November 1988, with the consent of Vice Premier Zou Jiahua of the State Council, two Y-7 aircraft purchased by Nanjing City (named Zijin and Zhongshan respectively) were entrusted to China United Airlines for operation, and the Air Force managed and provided flight services. On December 15th of the same year, China United Airlines Nanjing Company was established on the basis of "Nanjing Airlines"; on December 27th, the maiden flight was carried out by the "Zijin" aircraft from Nanjing to Fuzhou. China United Airlines Nanjing Airlines also reached a cooperation agreement with China United Airlines Fujian Company in 1989 to form a joint venture and prepare to establish Southeast Airlines. Fujian Province purchased two Yun-7 aircraft, which were handed over to Nanjing Airlines for unified external operation before the establishment of China Southwest Airlines, but China Southwest Airlines ultimately failed.
On July 17, 1994, on the basis of China United Airlines Nanjing Company, Nanjing Airlines Co., Ltd. was established with the approval of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. It is an enterprise owned by the whole people with a registered capital of RMB 80 million, jointly operated by China Minmetals Import and Export (Group) Corporation. Business Scope: Air passenger and cargo transportation business of domestic feeder lines within Jiangsu Province and adjacent provinces of Jiangsu. Initially headquartered at No. 238 Zhujiang Road, Nanjing. The company implements the general manager responsibility system under the leadership of the chairman, chairman Zhang Shucheng, general manager Zhang Fanyi, deputy general managers Cheng Xijie and Fu Qingxian. It started operations on August 8, 1994. By the end of the year, Nanjing-Nanchang, Nanjing-Ganzhou, Nanjing-Ningbo, Nanjing-Wenzhou, Nanjing-Wuhan, Nanjing-Qingdao, Nanjing-Lianyungang, Nanjing-Hangzhou, Nanjing-Yiwu, Nanjing-Huangshan and other routes transported 13,684 passengers, and the normal flight rate of the year was 81.2%.
As China Northwest Airlines was merged by China Eastern Airlines in 2002 and China Northwest Airlines has officially become history since March 1, 2003, it was a foregone conclusion that Nanjing Airlines would be merged into Eastern Airlines Jiangsu Company. At the beginning of March 2003, the two-character code of Nanjing Airlines was uniformly changed to MU of China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu Company. In July, the flight emblem on the aircraft fuselage of the original Nanjing Airlines was officially sprayed with the logo of China Eastern Airlines, and the original independent accounting system was also formally unified. The more than 600 employees of Nanjing Airlines also enjoyed the same treatment as the employees of China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu Company. Nanjing Airlines no longer exists.
