Political Career
Naomi Waqo started her leadership career in 2003 to 2005 as Administrator and Development Coordinator in Anglican Church of Kenya and from 2005 to 2012 as St Nicolas Development Center Director and Diocesan Administrative Secretary from 2012 to 2017. In 2017, she joined politics and was nominated to the Kenyan Senate under Jubilee party, and her nomination, despite having no previous political experience, was an inspiring position for the women of Marsabit. As a Jubilee Party Senator, she was inexperienced in politics, and she nearly lost her position when her party leader, President Kenyatta, wanted to remove her and other Senators, accusing them of disrespecting the Jubilee Party President, but she overcame this[3]. After joining politics with no prior experience, she gained political experience and joined William Ruto in his party, the United Democratic Alliance, ran for an elected position using the party ticket as Marsabit Woman Representative, and won the position, defeating the incumbent Woman Representative Safia Sheikh Adan in 2022 [4]. Before joining the 13th Parliament of Kenya in 2022, she held positions in other parliaments. From 2017 to 2022, she was a committee member on Agriculture and Fishery, from 2018 to 2021 she was the Chairperson of the Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration, and the Vice Chairperson of the Committee of Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights from 2019 to 2022[2]. She was also appointed on 29 January 2020 as a Director to Nagele Livestock Capital Ltd[5]
