Naowa Chamnian Bridge
Naowa Chamnian Bridge (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist., RTGS: Saphan Nao Cham Nian, th) is the bridge that crosses Khlong Bangkok Yai, which forms the boundary between Bangkok Yai and Thon Buri districts of Bangkok, Thailand. On the Bangkok Yai side, the bridge ends in Wat Tha Phra subdistrict, the starting point of Phet Kasem Road (Highway 4), one of the four national highways of Thailand and the country's longest highway. On the Thon Buri side, the bridge marks the beginning of Intharaphithak Road, with the side leading towards Wongwian Yai belonging to Hiran Ruchi subdistrict, while the opposite side falls within Bang Yi Ruea subdistrict.
It was built during World War II through cooperation between Thailand and Japan, and was named after Mongkol Naowachamnian, the director of the construction project.[1]
The bridge runs parallel to Charoenphat Bridge, which lies further upstream. Beneath the bridge, from the 1980s until around 1997, there were still 2–3 eiam-jun[lower-alpha 1] boats permanently moored there, serving as floating homes for boat-dwelling families.[2]
