Narinder Dhruv Batra
Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra is the President[1] of the Indian Olympic Association and member of International Olympic Committee.[2] [3] He became the Chief of the Indian Olympic Association in 2017 and succeeded Narayana Ramachandran who is an Indian squash administrator to become the 13th President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). He did his graduation (B.A.) from Amar Singh College, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India (1974–1977), and L.L.B (Bachelor of Law) from the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir (1977–1981). He and his family have businesses in the following sectors: hospitals; education and medical education; hospitality; exports, commodities, and home furnishings; home appliances manufacturing; automobile dealerships (Toyota)/(Tata)/(Suzuki); transport, LPG & petrol tankers, and special trucks to transport vehicles from manufacturing facilities across India to sales outlets; gas stations/petrol pumps; solar power plant; won bid for a private sea port in Gujarat; automobile components manufacturing.
He has held various posts in sports and other domains at State and National levels. He was the President of the Hockey Association of Jammu & Kashmir (1997–2010) and (2012–2014); Sr. Vice President of the Indian Hockey Federation (Men) (2002–2008); Secretary General and Treasurer of Hockey India (2009–2010) and Secretary General of Hockey India (2010–2014); President of Hockey India (2014–2016); Chairman of the Hockey India League (2012–2016); Member of the Organising Committee of the Hockey World Cup, India (2010); Chairman of the Organising Committee of nine International Hockey tournaments in India (2012–2015); Treasurer of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (2003–2013); Member of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council (2008–2010); Vice-President of the Asian Hockey Federation (2011–2016); Associate Vice-President of the Indian Olympic Association (2013–2017); Member of the Competitions Committee of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) (2012–2014); Executive Board Member of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) (2014–2016); Member of the Government of India, Ministry of Sport Bill Drafting Committee (2013 & 2016); President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) (2016–); President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) (2017–); Member of the CSR Committee of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India (2018–).[4]
Under his presidency, the IOA adopted a new logo in July 2020, celebrating 100 years of participation of Indian athletes in the Olympic Games [5].
A controversy regarding his election as the Chief of the International Hockey Federation erupted in 2020 when the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) vice-president Sudhanshu Mittal alleged that the appointment of Narinder Batra as the International Hockey Federation (IHF) chief was illegal and sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) head Thomas Bach in this regard.[6]
Narinder Dhruv Batra is also the President of the International Hockey [7] Federation (FIH). He became FIH President in 2016. In 2021, he confirmed his re-election bid in a letter to the FIH Congress dated February 18, 2021.[8][9][10]
