Nathan Scoggins is an American film director.[1]
Early life[edit]
Born in Rhode Island, Scoggins was heavily involved in theater at an early age and produced plays during high school and in college.[2] He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1999.[3]
Work[edit]
Scoggins produced and directed the award-winning Doritos Super Bowl commercials known as 'Sling Baby' and 'Fashionista Daddy'.[4] The 'Sling Baby' commercial was voted No. 1 in the USA Today/Facebook Super Bowl Ad Meter in 2012.[5]
Scoggins helped produce Red Line,[6] a 2012 disaster film starring Nicole Gale Anderson and John Billingsley. The majority of the film took place in the soundstage of John Paul the Great Catholic University.[7]
Scoggins' most recent work is the 2022 film What Remains,[8] one of Anne Heche's last films before her death in 2022.[9] The film follows a recently paroled convict who returns to the small town where he committed a murder. The local sheriff investigates another mysterious homicide which may be related.[10] The film also stars Marcus Gladney Jr., Stelio Savante, and Juliana Destefano.[11]
At 29 years old, he directed the drama The Least of These [12], which starred Isaiah Washington, Robert Loggia, Bob Gunton, and John Billingsley.[13] The story follows a priest returning to the Catholic high school where he once was sexually abused.[14]
Both What Remains and The Least of these was made by Scoggins' longtime collaborator, Ralph Winter.[15]
What Remains premiered at the Austin Film Festival[16], shortly before being picked up for distribution by Gravitas Ventures.[17]
Personal life[edit]
He is a Christian.[18] and is a church-goer of the Los Angeles mega-church Mosiac[19], led by pastor Erwin McManus.[20] He is a professor at John Paul the Great Catholic University[21] and included faculty and staff in the making of What Remains.[22]
Scoggins gave a tribute to Anne Heche on social media shortly after her death, stating, “She lived her life on the move, tragically in many ways — on the run from demons and struggles that I only learned a little about in our times together,” Scoggins concluded by saying: “I hope she found some grace and peace along the way. I miss you Anne. Be still now, and know.” [23]
