Nathan Sutton
Nathan Sutton - Auteur, Thespian, and Impresario
Career Overview
Nathan Sutton is an actor, producer, screenwriter, and director based out of California. Nathan Sutton’s first documented acting roles take place in the early 2000’s in a number of shorts; Lactose Intolerant and Dial 'M' for Hobo in 2004; I'm Sorry, Mr. Reeves and Beautiful Hands in 2005; and Part One of Mistaken Love Stories in 2006.[1]. Sutton’s career developed as he took on many roles in popular television dramas such as Criminal Minds in 2005, Chuck from 2007 to 2013, Justified in 2011, 90210 from 2008 to 2013, and more (see below for full list of roles)[2]. As his career developed, Sutton decided to display his own creative genius by undertaking different roles in the film industry: Sutton wrote and produced Angels Flight in 2013[3]. That same year, Sutton released Autumn Wanderer, a “ slower, independent art film” and a “point of pride” according to Sutton in one interwiew, who wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film[4]. Sutton explains in this interview that the plot and type of film he had in mind allowed him to make it for much cheaper than the industry's standard: Produced for under $30,000 and filmed in just 12 days, though the film crew spent weeks ahead of time planning out where and how seens would go down, in addition to the years spent writing the film[5]. In the same interview, Sutton jokes, “my film company(Mohawk Street) has two employees, me and my wife”[6][7]. Nathan Sutton and his wife Elisha Skorman are the stars of the film, playing the roles of Charlie and Nia[8]. Though the film features two more high profile actors as well, including Anna Camp and Michael Mosley[9]. The most notable aspect of Autumn Wonder, besides the obvious themes of mental health and romance, is the camera techniques Sutton employees[10]. The dichotomy between the lengthy stagnant shots of Charlie's lonely life and the close up unstabilized shots whenever Nia enters the stage makes for an interesting viewer experience, as multiple reviews of the movie point out[11][12]. I can't explain how this affects the mood of the film, and I don't know that any of the film reviews cited below give it justice either, but luckily you can view it yourself for free right here[13]. “I wanted to make people work a little bit to understand what's going on”, Sutton mentioned in one interview in the RiverFront times, a local St. louis new source[14]. Sutton brought his independent film, Autumn Wanderer, back to his hometown of Affton, St. Louis after debuting it at the Hollywood Film Festival, and presenting it around the world at other local film festivals[15]. Autumn Wanderer won Sutton the Emerging Filmmaker Award in the Hollywood Film Festival and Best Cinematography at the Bootleg Edinburgh Film Festival[16]. Additionally, Elisha Skorman, Sutton’s wife and in real life, and love interest in Autumn Wonder, was nominated for Best Actress in the Madrid International Film Festival[17]. Nathan produced another short in 2014 called The Chaldean[18]. Sutton has since continued to take roles in many prominent television dramas such as CSI: Cyber in 2015, The Last Ship, from 2014 to 2015, Roadies in 2016, Fear the Walking Dead in 2017, NCIS in 2018, Chicago P.D. in 2019, and more (see below for full list of roles)[19]. Sutton has recently announced the production of his newest work, Before Jo/After Cam, in which he will take on the functions of writer, executive producer, and director[20]. According to IMDB, Sutton has acted in 31 films; he has undertaken the role of producer or executive producer in 4 films; 3 of which Sutton wrote, and two of which Sutton directed[21]
