National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters
NAPIA is nonprofit organization founded in 1951 that is for public insurance adjusting education and involved with legal and legislative representation by state with insurance laws. Working with The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. Founded in 1871, the U.S. standard-setting organization is governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories to coordinate regulation of multi state insurers.[1]
The public adjuster firms are the members that provide adjusting services on a full-time and professional basis adjusting first-party property claims for owners of fixed properties -- commercial, industrial, institutional, retail, and/or residential -- that have been damaged by causes covered by insurance. Claims may also include financial losses involving business interruption, rental income, improvements, additional expenses, etc.
Public insurance adjusters help policy holders receive payment from insurance companies. Public adjusters represent the policyholder for a small percentage of the resulting settlement money from the insurance claim. NAPIA's has events to receive education credit and vote on matters presented by the board. Some states have special adjuster licenses that cover all kinds of claims, while others have separate licenses for different types of insurance.[2] Most require a public adjuster license by meeting the states’ basic requirements and passing the state-required exam. [3] Once licensed, some states require adjusters to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. The 24 hours must include at least 3 hours of ethics.
