National Concert Hall (Taipei)
Located in Taipei, Taiwan, the National Concert Hall is one of the foremost performing arts venues of the Republic of China and is also ranked among the top hundred performing arts venues globally[1]. Together with the National Theater, they are jointly referred to as the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH).
The National Concert Hall encompasses two venues: the “shoebox”-shaped Concert Hall, containing a total of 2022 seats, and the Recital Hall. The National Symphony Orchestra and the headquarters of the National Performing Arts Center are also located in this building.
The National Concert Hall mechanical pipe organ is the largest in all of Asia and was handmade by Flentrop Orgelbouw, a Dutch company. The pipe organ spans three floors in height and is more than 14 meters wide, comprising 4,172 metal and wooden pipes. With most of its parts individually manufactured in the Netherlands before being assembled in Taipei, the construction of the organ took nearly two years to finish.[2]
Recital Hall
Located in the basement of the National Concert Hall on Xinyi Road, the Recital Hall is the perfect space for small-scale chamber music and recital performances. The close proximity of the audience to the performers promotes a more intimate atmosphere for performances. The Recital Hall is the most-used venue of the NTCH, hosting the most performances each year.[3]
