National Gridiron League new article content ...

The National Gridiron League (NGL) is a proposed professional indoor football league set to play in March 2019, one month following the National Football League's Super Bowl championship game.[1]

Based in the southern United States the NGL will be comprised of twelve initial teams to begin its debut season in 2019.[2]

History[edit]

The National Gridiron League was announced on December 14, 2017, by Joe McClendon III, president of the National Gridiron League. The NGL will be overseen by former AFL and NFL Europe veteran William Alford and former AFL safety Keon Perry.[3][4]

By June 2018, the league plans to announce twelve teams and their cities. A free agent draft would then be held.

The NGL plans to begin its inaugural, 16-game season on March 15, 2019. The four-team playoff would be capped with the league's neutral site championship game planned for the first weekend of August.

The league has also proposed hosting an annual college football all-star game to be held every year in Savannah, Georgia at Savannah's renovated Memorial Stadium.[5][6]

If the NGL survives to reach its second season, it will find itself in direct competition with the Arena Football League and National Arena League.[7][8]

Rules[edit]

  • Teams will have 28 players on each roster.
  • Telecasts will feature television timeouts and fewer commercials, with the league aiming for an approximate real-time game length of 150 minutes, down from just over 180 in the NFL.[9]
  • The play clock will run only 30 seconds, 10 seconds shorter than in the NFL.
  • Two timeouts per halve per team.

Business[edit]

The league will operate as a single entity, with all teams owned and operated by the league.
