National Hardwood Floor Association
The National Hardwood Floor Association was a group that organized prank calls to a Christian talk radio station in the United States.
Overview[edit]
The National Hardwood Floor Association released an album of political prank calls to Christian radio station KPDQ in 1992. The only known members of the group were Joel Schalit, who later became co-editor of the magazine Punk Planet and was a member of the follow-on group Christal Methodists and the post-rock group Elders Of Zion; and Electro Motive records owner and Wetgate member Peter Conheim, who joined Negativland in the late 1990s. The NHFA's influence can be clearly discerned in both Schalit and Conheim's post-Savage Vigilance recordings. The NHFA spun off another prank-call enterprise, The Christal Methodists, which also collaborated on projects with Brother Russell Ministries.
History[edit]
The National Hardwood Floor Association started in Portland, Oregon in 1987. Originally consisting of a group of undergraduate students attending Reed College, the 'band' was anointed the NHFA by Conheim for the release of the Savage Vigilance For A Rug-Free America LP. First issued by his own Electro Motive label, the CD version was produced under a cooperation agreement with Portland imprint Soleilmoon Recordings in 1993. According to the Electro Motive website, though the vinyl edition is out of print, the Savage Vigilance CD remains available.
