National Monuments Organization

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The National Monuments Organization (Dutch: Nationale Monumentenorganisatie) (NMo), is a Dutch organization that manages national monuments that do not have a government function. The organization aims to collaborate in the monuments world with the aim of sharing knowledge, achieving economies of scale, developing new applications for monuments, and arousing a greater public interest in monuments.[1]

History[edit]

In 2012, the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Piet Hein Donner, decided that the national monuments that fulfill no state function can be repealed. His successor, Stef Blok, continued the privatization in 2013.

In April 2014, the NMo was founded by six organizations in the field of monument conservation. Which included among others: Hendrick de Keyser, Natuurmonumenten, Stichting Vrienden der Geldersche Kasteelen, BOEi, Utrecht Society for Stadsherstel. The €61 million 'maintenance fee' received from the government will be deposited into a capital fund. The organization must use the proceeds to finance the management and maintenance of the monuments.

Robert J. Quarles van Ufford has been director of the NMo since March 2015.

On Friday, January 15, 2016, 29 monuments without government function were transferred to the National Monuments Organization. In the autumn of 2018, the Oostkerk in Middelburg was added.

In 2017, Staatsbosbeheer and the twelve provincial Landschappen joined the NMo.
