Background

‘’National No Makeup Day’’ is an annual event celebrated by women around the world every 26 April. Women are encouraged to go barefaced for one day to celebrate their natural beauty. The event appears to have been established in 2017 when "No Makeup" trended on social media, although its exact origins have not been traced.[1]

The trend for wearing no makeup has been supported by celebrities such as Cindy Crawford, Lady Gaga[2], and Alicia Keys who said that she “doesn’t want to cover up anymore” and has chosen to be makeup-free since 2016.[3]

Media Coverage

The Independent covered National No Makeup Day on 23rd April 2019, establishing it as a National Day of interest.[4]
