Neengalum Herodhan (lit: You are also a Hero) is a 1990 Tamil film directed by V. Sekhar. Newcomer Ram Manohar and Divya played leading roles along with Nizhalgal Ravi, Silk Smitha, M.N. Nambiar, P.S.Veerappa, Goundamani and Senthil. The music was composed by Gangai Amaran.
The film marked the directional debut of director V. Sekhar and veteran actor V.K. Ramasamy's son Ram Manohar made his debut as hero in this movie.
Plot
In a village, all the villagers get excited when a film crew comes to shoot. The story revolves around multiple characters: A Fan Club run by a jobless youth named Rattan Raj (Vasu Vikram) dedicated to the hero Tiger Premnath (Nizhalgal Ravi) who comes for the shoot, two village drama artists Pavadaisaamy (Goundamani) and Pakkirisaamy (Senthil) who aspire to become cinema actors. Also featured is a naive village girl Raani (Lalitha Kumari) who is starstruck by the actors, and the humble villager Kaaliappan (Ram Manohar) who is loved by his future wife Kannathaa (Divya).
M.N. Nambiar and P.S.Veerappa arrive in the village but are shunned by the villagers because they are villains in cinema. In reality, they are the nicest people, but they cannot find a place to stay.
The hero Tiger Premnath arrives for the shooting of a village movie called Vivasai Magan. He impresses the villagers with his noble deeds and even advises an alcoholic to quit, as he is a teetotaler both in the movies and in real life. His duality is exposed when Kaaliappan sees Tiger Premnath sexually assaulting Ponni (Ratna). Tiger Premnath tries to pay him off, but Kaaliappan refuses. He becomes helpless as he cannot reveal the hero’s true colours and gets into a fight with the fan club, who accuse Tiger Premnath of being a rogue. When summoned by the Panchayat President K. K. Soundar, he still accuses Tiger Premnath in front of everyone. However, Ponni requests Kaaliappan not to tell anyone, fearing her marriage would be stopped, and he refuses to tell the reason, resulting in his banishment from the village. This causes Kannatha to think he hates her. The producer and the director advise Tiger Premnath not to get involved, as it could spoil his image. Tiger Premnath insults the director, producer, and M.N.Nambiar and P.S.Veerappa.
The director shoots a scene involving a bull charging at Tiger Premnath and his wife as an act of revenge by Nambiar. When the Panchayat President checks the cowshed, he finds the bull is still there and the shepherd says he gave the stunt master an uncontrollable bull that could be tamed by Tiger Premnath because he had fought tigers in the movies. The Panchayat president tells him that cinema actors don’t do stunts for real, they just fake it. During the scene, the bull attacks Tiger Premnath and he runs away in fear until Kaaliappan tames the bull, getting hurt in the process. The producer offers Kaaliappan money, but he refuses it.
Silk Smitha is the centre of attention for the older people, who constantly chase her. Raani aspires to be like her, but Silk Smitha advises her not to follow her footsteps, as the industry is a place where a commoner cannot survive. Hearing this, Raani’s mother apologises to her for insulting her earlier.
The hero is feted at a religious function, where his fans equate him to a king in a song. This inspires Tiger Premnath to jump into politics, where he mocks the people, claiming they don’t know the difference between cinema and reality.
The Fan club decides to inaugurate their newly built fan club by putting up posters and banners welcoming Tiger Premnath. When Muthu (Ganeshkar) tries to tie the banner near an electric pole, he gets electrocuted and dies. Mike (Chinni Jayanth) requests Tiger Premnath to attend the funeral, but he ridicules the fact that it was the boy’s fault, not his. To avoid attending, he tells his assistant to lie to the fan club members, saying that Tiger Premnath suffered a chest pain upon hearing the news and is resting.
When the hero leaves for Madras, he spots Ponni walking and speaks disgustingly to her, prompting her to slap him. He then decides to rape her, and Rattan Raj and his friend witness the commotion, shocked to see their hero’s true nature. Tiger Premnath kicks them and drives away with the girl, but she jumps out of the car and tries to escape, and Kaaliappan saves her and attacks him. Rattan Raj mobilises the villagers to attack Tiger Premnath, who begs Kaaliappan to save him. Then, the school headmaster gives advice to the people, telling them not to think their life is like cinema, as cinema actors take advantage of their foolishness. Tiger Premnath apologises to the villagers for his bad deeds.

Reception
The movie did not do well at the box office, but it is a realistic take on how the cinema industry works and why people should focus on improving their life instead of daydreaming about cinema.
