Neil Milliken is an English accessibility and digital inclusion advocate. He is one of the founding members of AXSChat.[1], a leading online community that promotes accessibility and inclusion across social media. He is a W3C expert and contributor [2] and Member of the Board of Directors for the Word Institute on Disability [3]. He is currently the Head of Accessibility and Digital Inclusion for Atos [4].

Early Career[edit]

Neil worked in the Music & Video industry working in the export business and then as a product manager for early online retailers.

Iansyst[edit]

In 2001 Neil joined Iansyst Ltd [5], one of the UK’s leading Assistive Technology and disability service suppliers as a Special Projects Manager. During Neil’s 9-year tender at Iansyst he held various titles and responsibilities including Product and Business Unite Manager. His time at Iansyst cumulated with his last two years as Head of Mobile Development [6] which in turn lead to Neil becoming a Director of Mobispeech Ltd; Mobispeech was a joint venture between Iansyst and Raspberry Software Ltd who’s focus was the development and marketing of technology for mobile devices. Mobispeech’ s most recognised product was the award winning [7][8] CapturaTalk application for people with dyslexia.

Atos[edit]

In 2010 Neil left Iansyst to join Siemens IT Solutions Services Ltd (SIS) [5] as the Accessibility Systems Technical Design Authority. During this time Neil was the single point of contact for all accessibility and assistive technology related deliverables across the GB&I region. In 2011 SIS were acquired by Atos [9], and Neil was given the role of Technical Infrastructure Architect for Accessibility and Assistive Technology for the Atos BBC account. During the next two years Neil championed the accessibility cause within Atos and was able to build a small team into a Centre of Competence for Accessibility, Inclusive Design and Assistive Technology Services which provided support, best practice and consultancy throughout the internal organisation and across multiple accounts. During 2013, with his growing team, Neil was promoted to the Head of Accessibility & Digital Inclusion [5] and tasked with setting the strategic agenda for Accessibility whilst ensuring the outsourced managed service for accessibility and assistive technology for multiple government and private sector clients. In addition to his leadership role, in 2017 Neil was recognised as an Atos Distinguished Expert within the Atos scientific community for the field of Digital Workplace and Accessibility [4][10].

AXSChat[edit]

In 2014 Neil co-founded a social media venture – AXSChat (access chat) with Debra Ruh [11] and Antonio Santos [1]. It is a social media site about providing access and inclusion to those with accessibility and inclusive needs [12]. It was an event partner for the Paralympic Games in 2016 [13]. Other Activities In 2011 Neil was asked to represent Atos as a member of the Business Disability Forum Technology Task Force [5] where he has successfully instigated the adoption and implementation of the Accessible Technology Charter and has was the winner of the Disability champion award [14]. In 2014 Neil became an invited expert and contributor to the W3C Cognitive Accessibility Taskforce [2]. In 2016, he gained [5] a fellowship of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (The RSA) [15] In 2018 he also became a Member of the Board of Directors for the Word Institute on Disability [3]

Personal Life[edit]

Neil Was born & grew up in Carshalton Surrey, he gained a BA joint Honours From St Annes College Oxford and an MBA from the Open University. He is married with no children.
