Neil Mukherjee is an Indian musician. He was the lead guitarist of Kolkata based band Krosswindz.[1] He has composed, accompanied, arranged and sung many songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil and Bengali for various films and albums.
Musical career
Neil's earliest musical influences came from his maternal uncle, the legendary Gautam Chattopadhyay, who taught him the ropes of finger style guitar. Neil collaborated with him on the songs of Mohiner Ghoraguli and helped with the creation of their iconic sound.
Early on, he formed a band Grassroot, which featured Surojit Chatterjee of Bhoomi as a member. It was at Krosswindz that Mukherjee wrote and composed Path Gechhe Bneke[2], often regarded as a seminal album for Bengali rock.
Neil is trained in classical guitar and music theory from Trinity College of Music, London. He is also a proficient veena player training under A. Anantharaman Iyer in Kolkata, before foraying deeper into Carnatic with Chitravina N. Ravikiran in Chennai.
In Chennai, he got the opportunity to work with A R Rahman[3] on Tamil songs and background scores. He is also credited as a featured guitarist on tracks such as "Senorita" from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Ala Barfi! from Barfi! and Kay Sera Sera from Pukar, to name just a few.
