Neil the Myroblyte (Greek: Νείλος ο Μυροβλύτης), also known as Neil of Sinai or Neil of Athos was a hermit who lived on Mount Athos. He was an author of ascetic texts, and he is revered as a saint in the Orthodox Church. He wrote the Posthumous Broadcasts of Saint Neil the Myroblyte of Athos.

Biography[edit]

Neil the Myroblyte was born in the 16th century in Moray, Greece. He is parents were pious Orthodox Christians. His parents died early in his life and he was brought up by his uncle Macarius, a hieromonk.

After reaching adulthood, Neil got a monastic tonsure and was ordinated as a hierodeacon. Then he was later ordinated as a hieromonk. He and his uncle then went to live on Mount Athos, where they worked in a place called the Holy Stones.

After the death of Macarius, Neil moved into a rocky cave which was nearly inaccessible. He built a small temple in the cave and he lived the rest of his life there.

When he died he was glorified by peacemaking, which flowed from his cave. His holy relics were located in the cave. Orthodox Christians began to gather from all around and Neil the Myroblyte became known all across the Christian world.
