Nelson Dilipkumar (born 21 June 1984) is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter , who predominantly works in Tamil Industry. As of 2018, Nelson has won Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards award for Best Screenplay..[1] He also got his name as of one of the list of promising directors who made a mark in 2018 list of Times of India [2].
Nelson's debut movie was Kolamavu Kokila. Nelson had previously worked with Silambarasan for a project titled Vettai Mannan which was shelved for unknown reasons. Nelson had also been the creative Director of the Bigg Boss Tamil Show (Season 1 & 2).

Nelson Dilipkumar is a graduate with a degree in Visual communication from New_College, Chennai. Getting inspired by his father who was a freelance scriptwriter by then, he started his journey towards film making by working as an assistant script writer in Star Vijay in 2004. He also expanded his territory in producing/directing shows for Star Vijay like Ollybelly [3]

Nelson started his by then debut movie Vettai_Mannan in 2010 starring Silambarasan, Hansika Motwani and Deeksha Seth which was planned to be produced by NIC Arts S. S. Chakravarthy. The movie was shelved for unknown reasons in half way through.[4] [5]. He has directed the audio launch event of I (film) in 2014 and 2.0 (film) in 2017.
Nelson then took time out from his TV commitments to work on a few scripts. After penning the script for Kolamavu Kokila in six months, Nelson met Nayanthara who agreed to be a part of the film[6]. The formal debut movie for Nelson is Kolamavu Kokila which was produced by Lyca Productions, described as a "dark comedy", the makers held discussions with Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu to cast them in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander was signed up to compose the film's score and soundtrack. Sivakumar Vijayan the cinematographer of Irudhi Suttru and Iraivi was signed up to do the cinematography for the film. The shoot began in August 2017, with television anchor Jacqueline joined the cast during the first schedule.[7][8]
The film was released on 17 August 2018 and was also released in Telugu as Ko Ko Kokila. Kolamavu Kokila earned 5,47,80,440 in box office and was listed by Behindwoods.com in 6th position in their top 16 Tamil box office movies of 2018.[9]
