Nelson Mandela Leadership Award[1] is an International recognition to people to for their outstanding services towards the Peace and International understanding. These Awards are conferred by the NRI Welfare Society[2]. Selection is done by an Advisory Board who are usually eminent citizens. The Award ceremony is attended by senior members of House Of Lords, House Of Commons and Indian Government.

The number of awardees varies each year, but in generally about 20 to 25. At the some annual event, tributes to at the statue Nelson Mandela is also given at Parliament Square London U.K. These award to granted near the birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela. Former Prime Ministers of India ( Shri H. D. Deve Gowda ), Sandip K. Verma, Baroness Verma ( Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development ), Amar Singh ( Leader of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh[3] ), Laxmi Mall Singhvi ( High Commissioner for India in the United Kingdom (1991–97) ) and other eminent dignitaries were invited to give this award.

NRI Welfare Society of India[edit]

The NRI Welfare Society of India, with chapters in various countries, was founded in 1981 by Harbhajan Singh (died 2006), member of the Press Council of India (1982-1988), editor of the English fortnightly The Indian Observer, president of the All India Small & Medium Newspapers Federation, and recipient of the 2000 UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal.[3] The NRI Welfare Society of India serves to link members of the Indian diaspora with the Government of India.[4]
