Nengi Rebecca Hampson (born January 1, 1998),.[1] popularly known by her mononym Nengi, is a Nigerian beauty pageant title holder and media personality, from Bayelsa State[2]. She holds the titles of The

Nigerian Queen 2013 and Miss Peace Nigeria 2014.[3] [4]She was the second runner-up in the reality competition show Big Brother Naija Season 5[5], and currently the Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child

Early life and education[edit]

Nengi was born and raised in Port Harcourt, to a British father and a Nigerian mother. She is a native of Nembe/Brass LGA, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.[8]She studied Linguistics and Mass Communication at the University of Port Harcourt.[1]

Career[edit]

Queen of Nigeria 2013[edit]

Nengi contested and was first runner-up of the Miss Queen of Trust pageant in Bayelsa in 2013, now known as The Nigerian Queen. She was later crowned the winner replacing the original Winner Regina Raphael Ushene, who was dethroned.[3][8]

Miss Peace Bayelsa 2014[edit]

She was crowned Miss Peace Bayelsa in 2014, contesting as Miss Ekeremor.[4]

Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2017[edit]

Nengi contested as Miss Bayelsa, for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) that was held on 15 September 2017 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. She was placed in the Top 5, while winning the award for the Best Evening Wear.[2][9] [10][11]

Government Appointment[edit]

On the 6th of November 2020, The Southern Examiner reported Nengi had been appointed as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Bayelsa State Governor on girl child development and also unveiled as the new Face of Bayelsa State, by the Bayelsa State Governor Douyo Diri.[12]

Magazine cover and feature[edit]

Nengi appeared on the cover of the end of the year's edition of Betty Irabor’s Genevieve Magazine, on 21st December 2020.[13][14] She also covered the 7th online edition of glitz Africa magazine, released on 1st March 2021.[15][16] She was featured in Vanguard (Nigeria) Allure (magazine) on March 26, 2021 as one of the Top 7 present day Nigerian Influencers.[17]

Awards/Nominations[edit]

On 15 February 2021, Vanguard News wrote that Nengi had been shortlisted for the Gage Awards' 2020 Influencer of the Year Award, alongside Aisha Yesufu[18]

On 24 April 2021, Nengi was announced winner of the 2020 Influencer of the Year Award category

Endorsements[edit]

On February 2, 2021, The Guardian Nigeria News reported Nengi had signed an endorsement deal with Guinness Nigeria. The deal unveiled her as the new face of Guinness Nigeria, joining Beverly Naya, Fireboy DML, Yagazie Emezi and Oli Ekun as a member of the Guinness Smooth Tribe[19][20].

On February 18, 2021, Boz Jewelry, a Nigerian premium and luxury jewelry brand, reported on their official website she had joined them as a brand ambassador [21]

On March 31, 2021, Gh Trending Links reported she had signed a Partnership deal with Itel mobile Nigeria [22], to join Olamide as the face of the Chinese-based smartphone manufacturer.[23]
