Nengi Hampson(born Rebecca Ayebanengimote Hampson; 1 January 1998) is a British-Nigerian reality TV star, entrepreneur, former model and a budding actress.[1] She finished as the 2nd runner up of the season 5 of Big Brother Naija in September 2020.[2] On November 2, 2020, Nengi received an international black women award for entrepreneur of the year in recognition of her shoe line. She was also recently appointed as the Senior Special Adviser on girl child affairs to the Bayelsa state government.[3]

Early life and Education[edit]

Rebecca Nengi Hampson was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria to a Nigerian mother and a British father. Nengi hails from the Nembe/Brass local government area of Bayelsa State.[1] She spent some of of her childhood in Port Harcourt before moving to Bayelsa where she completed her secondary school education.[4] Nengi graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with a second class upper degree in Linguistics and Communication studies.[5]

Pageantry[edit]

Nengi started her career as a young model where she competed among the best girls in the country. In 2013, Nengi won the Queen of Trust Beauty pageant earning her the title of Miss Trust[1]. After this, in 2014 she went on to win the Miss Peace Bayelsa Beauty Pageant which gave her the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Miss Peace International pageant.[6] In 2017, after competing with 37 of the finest girls in Nigeria, she emerged as the 4th runner up of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant.

Entrepreneur[edit]

Nengi opened a shoe line business named Shoes by Flora in 2019. Her shoe line offers a collection variety of not only heels but also slides and flats.To enable her brand reach a greater audience, she went for the Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

Big Brother and beyond[edit]

In 2020, she entered the Big Brother Naija reality TV show as the 20th contestant on 19 July.[7] The now Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Bayelsa was known as one of the most competitive contestants and she emerged as the 2nd Runner up of the show.[2]

After leaving the show, Nengi got signed to Play Management Africa, one of Africa's top talent management firms which is under Play Network Africa.[8] She made her acting debut in Nollywood's block buster, Rattlesnake, The Ahanna Story.[9] On November 6 2020, Nengi was appointed as the Senior Special Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor on girl child affairs.[10]She was also named as the official face of Bayelsa State and appointed as an ambassador of the Bayelsan girl child.[11] Nengi has also featured as a star lead in Davido's hit music video, Jowo.[12][13][14]

Personal life[edit]

Nengi grew up with her sister and her mother having lost her father at a very young age.[15] She also revealed during the Big Brother Naija show that she lost her mom in her teen years.[16] Nengi named her shoe line after her mother to honor her memory.[17]

Endorsement Deals[edit]

Nengi is signed to Play Network Africa and currently has endorsement deals with Remy Martin, Jennys Glow,Deshapeables and one of Africa's finest online fashion stores, Payporte.[18][19][20][21]
