Neri I. Karra is an academic, specializing in Entrepreneurship and Strategy, and an entrepreneur in the leather goods and handiworks industry with her eponymous brand which now has 28 stores in 14 countries.[1][2][3][4][5]
Early life[edit]
Neri karra was born in a small town in Southern Bulgaria.[1] In 1989, her family was forced to migrate to Turkey without any financial resources[3][6] and she had to earn her living by offering translation services to tourists in Russian, Bulgarian, Turkish and English.[2]
Career[edit]
Neri secured a scholarship in University of Miami when she was 18;[6] influenced by the entrepreneurship spirit in the US, upon her return to Istanbul at the age of 22, she started her own business on a shoestring,[2] which would be run by her and her family.[3][7]
In addition to being the Creative Director and Founder of her leather products brand, she also started a boutique consultancy firm that provides executive training, consulting and educational seminars in the fashion and luxury industry.[8][6]
As an academic, Neri Karra specializes in family business, entrepreneurship and strategy,[9][10][11] with a PhD in International Business from the Cambridge Judge Business School,[2][12][5] and has authored two books titled Beyond Borders and The Global Entrepreneur: Lessons from New Ventures.[13] She currently lectures on Strategy and Entrepreneurship, and was an academic director at Imperial College London and Royal College of Art, and lectured at London College of Fashion.[14][4][7]
At a TEDx talk, she described her life story about finding passion and purpose[15][8] and continues to do public speaking in different colleges and organizations.[8] In December 2008, NESTA published a report by Dr. Neri Karra in The UK Designer Fashion Economy on value relationships in respect to business growth.[4]
She has received media coverage in Forbes,[16] as well as Elle[17] and Grazia magazines,[18][19][20] among others.[20][21][22][23]
