Network browser
Network Browser is a simple file manager/browser utility for browsing files on your Windows network. It can connect to standard Windows or Samba shares. Use it to browse files on your Samba shares, view pictures, play network music, watch videos that you have on your network, etc. A network browser uses the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to browse a network for connected devices. By sending requests and getting responses, etc.
To connect to a server: • Navigate through the listed network neighborhoods to locate the server, then double-click its name. Tip: You can use the back and forward arrows to retrace your steps, or return to your starting point (the top level in the list of neighborhoods) by clicking the Shortcuts button and choosing Network.
To connect to a server using a URL or IP address: • Click the Shortcuts button and choose "Connect to Server," then type the URL or IP address for the server and click Connect. Shortcuts button
To connect to a server recently visited: • Click the Recent button and choose the name of the server from the pop-up menu. Recent button
To connect to a favorite server or neighborhood: • Click the Favorites button and choose the name of the server from the pop-up menu. Favorites button
To add a server or neighborhood to your favorites list: • Select the name of the item in the favorites list, then click the Favorites button and choose "Add to Favorites" from the pop-up menu. You can also drag an item from the favorites list to the Favorites button.
Tip: To create an alias for a server or neighborhood, drag the name of the item to the desktop.
If the server you're looking for is not listed: • Check your configuration in the AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panels. • Check the LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) server specified in the Hosts settings on the Advanced tab in the Internet control panel. • Ask your network administrator if the server is registered in a directory in a network segment where your computer can discover it. • See the Network Services Location Manager Network Administrator’s Guide for information on how the Network Browser discovers services and what you or your network administrator can do to make a service appear in the browser.
