Neue Gestaltung is a German design studio based in Berlin. Founded in 1995 by Pit Stenkhoff and Eva Wendel, the studio works in corporate identity, editorial design, poster design, and digital applications for cultural and commercial clients.[1][2]
History
The studio was established in Berlin in 1995 and incorporated as a GmbH in 2000. In 2004, the founders set up an in-house publishing imprint, Neue Bücher Verlag.[1]
Work
Neue Gestaltung works across visual identity systems, editorial and book design, posters, and digital interfaces. A 2018 profile in the design magazine PAGE described the studio's practice as combining cultural and commercial work, citing long-running corporate-design and user-interface engagements for Carl Zeiss AG and UniCredit.[1]
Theater Magdeburg
In 2022, the studio developed a visual identity for Theater Magdeburg under artistic director Julien Chavaz, built around modular illustrations and the GT Ultra typeface by Grilli Type. The project was profiled by It's Nice That[2] and entered into the D&AD Awards archive.[3]
Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung
In 2025, Neue Gestaltung developed a new visual identity for the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin, replacing the corporate design produced in 2014 by the Stuttgart studio L2M3. The redesign was first shown publicly at the museum's "Kommt auf die Baustelle!" festival from 19 to 21 September 2025. The studio reinterpreted the historical "bauhaus" lettering originally drawn by Herbert Bayer in the 1970s — adjusting cap height and adding redrawn S and R glyphs — and introduced Gräbenbach (Camelot Typefaces) as the new house typeface, replacing the previously used Bayer Next. The new colour palette combines a blue-violet and apricot as primary tones. [4][5]
Deutsches Technikmuseum
In 2025, the studio developed a new corporate design for the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin, replacing a logo dating from 2001 and the museum's previous blue rhombus pattern in use since 2014. The new identity is built around a modular robot figure composed of a circle, rectangle and triangle, and consolidates the visual systems of the foundation and its sub-brands, including the Science Center Spectrum, Kids Digilab and Junior Campus. The redesign was launched in November 2025 with a citywide image campaign across approximately 95 advertising surfaces in Berlin S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations, and includes a large robot graphic applied to the 43-metre rotor blade on the museum's forecourt. The project was profiled by PAGE in March 2026.[6][7][8]
Bergen Assembly
Neue Gestaltung has been involved in two consecutive editions of the Bergen Assembly, the Norwegian contemporary-art triennial. For the 4th edition in 2022, Yasmine and the Seven Faces of the Heptahedron, convened by the artist Saâdane Afif and curated by Yasmine d'O., the studio produced the visual identity for the triennial — including posters, flags distributed across the city, and the seven-part publication Side Magazine, edited by Louisa Elderton.[9][10] The studio was at the same time presented as one of three artistic positions in the exhibition chapter The Bonimenteur at Bergen Kunsthall, alongside the painter Bernhard Martin and the design collective GRAU, with four large-scale fabric works titled The Tourist, An Acrobats, The Coalman and The Fortune Teller.[11][12] The same constellation was reactivated as the exhibition The Bonimenteur at the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne in Reims from 15 December 2022 to 30 April 2023.[13]
For the 5th edition in 2025, across, with, nearby, convened by Ravi Agarwal, Adania Shibli and the Bergen School of Architecture, Neue Gestaltung designed the graphic identity of the triennial.[14]
Recognition
At the 2024 International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) International Typographic Awards, Neue Gestaltung received the inaugural Freda Sack Award jointly with the London-based designer Hugh Miller, for the studio's poster series for Theater Magdeburg. The award is named after the British type designer Freda Sack (1951–2019).[15][16]
The studio's work has also been recognised by the Art Directors Club of Germany (ADC), which awarded a Goldener Nagel in 2025 for the studio's catalogue for the Stiftung Buchkunst,[17] as well as by the Red Dot Design Award,[18] the European Design Awards,[19] the iF Design Award,[20] and the German poster competition 100 Beste Plakate.

Cultural clients have included the Bauhaus-Archiv,[4] the Deutsches Technikmuseum,[6] Theater Magdeburg,[2] Staatstheater Mainz, Theater Erlangen, and Bergen Assembly. Commercial and institutional clients listed by the studio include Carl Zeiss AG, UniCredit, Volkswagen, Audi, and Microsoft Germany.[1]
