New Idea was created in 1889 by Joseph Oppenheim as the New Idea Spreader Company, after inventing the mechanical Manure Spreader. Following Joseph's death from hyploid fever in 1901,[1] His son, B.C. Oppenheim took over as president. Incorporated in 1920, the company shortened its name to New Idea Company. 1935 was the year that B.C Oppenheim died, his sister's husband became the president of the company. Two years later, New Idea became a publicly traded company.
In 1945, Joseph Oppenheim's descendant sold New Idea to AVCO,[2] which promptly reformed as Avco New Idea.
Avco sold it's New Idea division to White, forming White-New Idea.
Uni-System[edit]
In 1963, New Idea bought the Uni-Tractor design from Motec Industries, rebranding it as the Uni-System. Majority produced were paired with corn pickers.
White-New Idea[edit]
Allied Products bought the company from AVCO in 1984, changing the name back to New Idea.
After acquiring White Farm Equipment's tractor production in 1985, Allied merged it with New Idea to create White-New Idea. In 1993, AGCO acquired the entire White-New Idea product line.[3] AGCO dropped the line around 2007.
