New Jersey Hills Media Group, parent-company of Recorder Community Newspapers and related websites , is a family-owned and run publisher based in Whippany, New Jersey, United States, and owner of seventeen northern Central Jersey local community newspapers, fifteen online news websites, and one quarterly publication covering the wine industry in the Finger Lakes region.[1][2] New Jersey Hills Media Group, including all owned publications, is an awarded member of the New Jersey Press Association[3][4] and the National Newspaper Association.[5]

History[edit]

Founded in 1955 by Cortlandt and Nancy Parker, the Morris Observer newspaper covered Morris Township and was the only newspaper owned by the Parkers until 1957, when the Bernardsville News and Mendham-Chester Tribune were purchased and their company, Recorder Community Newspapers, was officially founded. Since then, the company has purchased twenty-one newspapers - some of which have been merged to incorporate larger communities.[1]

In 2008, Recorder Community Newspapers was renamed to New Jersey Hills Media Group by the current owners and co-publishers, Stephen W. Parker and Elizabeth K. Parker, to emphasize the publisher's shift from solely physical papers to multimedia platforms as well to account for the changing dynamic in which the public receives local news.
