The New Tempe Arena is a planned arena to be constructed in Tempe, Arizona. It will serve as home arena for the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. It will be part of the larger $1.7B Tempe Entertainment District development which would include hotels, retail, apartments and a theater.[1]

Design[edit]

The arena will have a capacity of 16,000 and be mostly privately funded but the Coyotes would seek city sales tax revenues to help pay for $200 million in additional costs, including infrastructure work [2][3]

Concerns[edit]

As the arena's location is close to Phoenix Sky Harbor, the airport has concerns that the new arena will block safe landings for planes. A similar issue hit the Arizona Cardinals when they were trying to build a stadium at Rio Salado in 2001, which resulted in them moving to Glendale.
