Newgistics is a company headquartered in Austin, Texas that provides services and technology to support the e-commerce operations of retailers around the world. Its offerings include software and services to build and maintain e-commerce websites, perform order fulfillment, and manage parcel delivery and returns. The company partners with the United States Postal Service to handle last-mile delivery and first-mile pickup of packages while allowing package tracking along the way.[1]

History[edit]

Newgistics was founded in 1999 to help retailers more efficiently manage the process by which consumers could return purchases made online.[2] It was the first company to partner with the United States Postal Service on returns capabilities which allowed postal carriers to take a package from a consumer's home address in order for it to be returned to a retailer.[3] The company is the top provider for USPS’ Parcel Return Services.[4]

Through a series of partnerships and acquisitions, Newgistics expanded its offerings beyond returns management into additional areas of parcel shipping and delivery, order fulfilment and e-commerce.[5] In 2008, Newgistics acquired Cornerstone Shipping Services to expand its delivery capabilities.[6] In 2012, it acquired At Last Fulfilment to add fulfillment capabilities and expand its parcel customer base.[7] And in 2013, the company acquired Tacit Knowledge, a San Francisco-based software consultancy and systems integrator with expertise in the e-commerce space.[8]

Clients[edit]

Newgistics clients include Groupon, J. Crew, Neiman Marcus, Warby Parker, Chico's, and Road Runner Sports.[9]
