News Bureau Nepal (न्यूज ब्यूरो नेपाल) is a Nepalese online news portal based in Janakpur, Madhesh Province. The outlet publishes news related to politics, social issues, development, and local governance. It operates under Trinetra News Network Pvt. Ltd., which is registered with the Department of Information and Broadcasting of Nepal (registration no. 1216/075–76).[1]
History
The outlet was founded in 2017 in Janakpur by journalist Kashindra Kumar Sharma. It primarily focuses on news from the Terai–Madhesh region, publishing in Nepali, Maithili, and English. Since its founding, the portal has published stories on local governance, human rights, and civic awareness in southern Nepal.
Media recognition
News Bureau Nepal has been covered by multiple independent Nepali media outlets for its work in regional journalism and social awareness campaigns. Several Madhesh-based and national news portals, including Appan Janakpur, Terai Top, and Nagarik Mirror, featured reports on editor Kashindra Kumar Sharma for organizing a dowry-free marriage, describing it as an example of social reform and ethical journalism.[2][3][4]
The platform has also been listed as a contributing news source in Hamro Patro, Nepal’s leading digital service platform, where Sharma was credited for introducing the Maithili language section.[5]
Reporting and press freedom incidents
In August 2021, Freedom Forum Nepal reported that a reporter for News Bureau Nepal, Surendra Kumar Yadav, was attacked in Dhanusha after publishing a story about the renaming of a public area.[6] The incident drew condemnation from national press freedom organizations.
In 2024, the outlet’s executive editor Binay Kumar Yadav died in a motorcycle accident in Dhanusha. The case drew national media coverage after it was revealed he had previously filed a police complaint citing death threats.[7][8]
In 2025, Birgunj Express reported that the outlet’s editor faced a defamation case filed by Dhanusha Police following coverage of alleged smuggling activities, which press organizations criticized as an attempt to suppress local journalism.[9]
Social and environmental initiatives
News Bureau Nepal has participated in community awareness campaigns and environmental events in Madhesh Province. In 2020, its team members joined the "Kamala River Awareness Journey," an environmental event highlighting water conservation and pollution issues in the Terai region.[10]
