The News Digest is a daily online newspaper in Abuja, published by Merchants Youths Digest Publishers Limited. [1][2]

Founded

The online newspaper was founded and owned by Merchants Limited (IMPR) in 2015. The director of Merchants Limited is Mr Sule Yau and the editor of PR Nigeria. The newspaper is operated by young Nigerian graduates and journalists.[3]

Digest journalist

In 2018, two of its published workers were arrested due to publication of an investigation in May. The published title 'story inside kwara' it leaked to a secret about the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and special adviser of the president Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Sarah Alade’s company in Kwara State where Indian hemp smoking is legalised the company known as Hillcrest Agro Allied industry. It was said to be tolerant of cigarette smoking, hemp smoking and the workers whose responsibility is to load and process grain in trucks. This came about due to lack of supervision and lack of taking actions and sanctions to the workers, the statement was written by a journalist Mr Olufemi Obafemi and three journalists in (IMPR), Mr Messrs Gidado and Adekoya were arrested including Mr Olufemi, the investigator, were detained and taken to Ilorin, Kwara State.[4][5][6][7]

In 2019, the Merchants Limited director Mr Sule Sule, who was the editor in PR Nigeria, reported that the three journalists in Newsdigest newspaper were bailed and released over the allegation of linking the secret publication, but Mr Olufemi Obafemi was to return on 23 December for further questions on linking to the secret publication.[8]
