Microbial Genomics, established in 2015[1][2], is the most recent publication by the Microbiology Society. It is a fully open access and open data, online-only journal.
Articles are published in the following subject categories: microbial evolution and epidemiology; microbial communities, microbe-niche interactions, genomic methodologies, responses to human interventions, and systems microbiology. Reviews, commentaries and short papers are also accepted in this journal.
There are currently two editors in chief, Prof. Stephen D. Bentley and Prof. Nicholas R. Thomson, both of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton near Cambridge. There is an international editorial board, which includes noted genome scientists Prof. Julian Parkhill FRS and Prof. Claire M. Fraser.
The journal is indexed in Pubmed and manuscripts deposited in Pubmed Central. The abbreviation for the journal title is Microb Genom and it is often abbreviated to MGen.
