Newsreel Asia is an India-based OTT media launched on the World Press Freedom Day, May 3, 2021.[1]. It's a new journalism visual and audio media that does storytelling in the form of docuseries, podcasts with a focus on generating empathy.[2].

The media is owned by Newsflicks Studio (OPC) Private Limited[3]. A marriage between journalism and filmmaking, it appears to be deviating from traditional journalism. Like other media organisations, it covers contemporary issues, though with longer shelf life, under the categories of society, governance, democracy and economy[4], but it appears to completely ignore party politics and focuses on common people’s interests.

The media's content can be compared to the Opinion Documentaries[5] section of The New York Times. However, while the NYT generally assigns Op Docs stories to independent filmmakers[6], and not its own journalists, Newsreel Asia videos are done by its own producers[7].

Newsreel Asia videos are different from the traditional television news also because they are "observational" in style[8], wherein the camera is merely observing characters as they do their daily activities, as opposed to interviews before the camera.

Its "The Dinner Table" docuseries was a runner up in two categories, Best News or Event Feature Video and Best Collaborative Investigative/Enterprise Reporting, for the 2021 EPPY Awards in the United States[9] [10]
