Ney Rosauro
Ney Rosauro (born October 24, 1952)[citation needed] is a Brazilian composer and percussionist.
Rosauro's more than 100 compositions include solos for marimba, vibraphone and multi-percussion setups, as well as music for percussion ensembles and several concerti for solo percussion and orchestras. A common theme in his work is the use of traditional Brazilian rhythm and melodies to create music with Brazilian roots.
Rosauro studied composition and conducting at the University of Brasília, where he received a bachelor's degree. He then attended the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, where he studied with Siegfried Fink, achieving a master's degree. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Miami, Florida, where he was Director of Percussion Studies from 2000 to 2010.
From 1977 to 1987 Rosauro taught percussion at Escola de Música de Brasília and played timpani and percussion at the Orquestra do Teatro Nacional de Brasilia.[clarification needed] From 1987 until 2000 he directed the Percussion Department at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil.
Rosauro's work, "Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra #1", is the most frequently played piece for solo percussion worldwide, performed by artists like Evelyn Glennie.[citation needed]
Rosauro has recorded 11 CDs and has presented concerts and clinics in more than 45 countries.[citation needed]
