Ngangkung is a horror comedy movie comedy directed by Ismail Bob Hashim, a director experienced in television drama. The 42nd film from Metrowealth Pictures was screened at Malaysian cinemas from November 25, 2010. Shaheizy Sam, Angah Raja Lawak, and Azad Jasmin portray human lives who are stuck in the gamble tail number.
While screened at the cinema, the movie "Ngangkung" succeeded in creating history in the Malaysian film industry when it became the first local film whose total collection reached RM8 million[1]in all local cinemas, reporting a total collection of RM8.15 million in five weeks (as of December 23, 2010)[2], including RM7.8 million in just 20 days, breaking the Adnan Sempit record that earned RM7.7 million in about a month, as listed in List of highest-grossing films in Malaysia.[3]
Plot
Ngangkung is an act of adoration to get the number of tails by bringing items to be worshipped by a bomoh. The items should be hard to find, such as old kris, old coins, and so on. The film tells the story of Azim, a lively driver who lives in a suburban village with his wife Suri and his daughter. Azim has two good friends, Tasnim and Wan. Tasnim and Wan are indeed gamblers, and their activities are known to their wives.
Azim, who had never thought about his friends' activities, was also affected by pressure and perseverance. Plus, the success of Tasnim changed his lifestyle after successfully winning the tail number. Starting with just curiosity, Azim increasingly enjoys Tasnim and Wan's company, even quietly without Suri's knowledge. They find various ways and various types of shamans in order to get the numbers they buy. A variety of horror and funny happenings ensue. A significant change in Azim's life took place when he became more seriously involved, neglecting the family due to the obsession to get the tail number. Likewise with Tasnim and Wan. So one day, events happen that really change their lives from continuing to engage in this activity.
