Nihad Fetić (Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic: Нихад Фетић; born 1966), better known as Hakala (Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic: Хакала), is Bosnian and Herzegovinian folk singer.
His music style is folk and modern turbo-folk.
Career[edit]
The beginning of Hakala's music career dates from 1984, when he joined the cultural community of "Ričice" from his birth place Zenica and founded the band ZOV with five people from the same cultural association. As the lead vocalist of the band ZOV, he and his members performed as an amateur group in numerous restaurants and discos in Zenica but did not achieve much success.[1]
Shortly after the outbreak of Bosnian War in 1992, Fetić emigrated to Germany. That same year he signed for the house HALIX and recorded his first album Skitnica velegradskih ulica, which came to the market in 1993 and had great success. In particular, the songs "Skitnica velegradskih ulica", "Umri u samoći"[1] and "Šta ću kad je volim" helped him to gain great popularity in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first place. Shortly afterwards, his songs also became big hits in Serbia, so some musicians from this country have recorded these songs themselves – e.g. Aca Lukas, who reinterpreted his song "Umri u samoći" on his album from 1998 (on the ekavaica; the first one who sang this song was Bratislav Bata Zdravković in 1988).
In 1994, Hakala released his second album titled Da sam te volio, which confirmed the success of the first album. Especially through the songs "Kafandžija" and "Da sam te volio", he became again heard in BiH and Serbia. Since then, the song "Kafandžija", so to speak, has become his 'ID card'.[1] A year later, he moved to BiH publishing house INTAKT Records and returned to Zenica – after the War in Bosnia ended –, after which he worked in Sarajevo, where he released five other albums by 2005.[1]
In 2005, he moved to Bijeljina to the publishing house VIP Productions and recorded two other albums – under the titles 100% and the other without the main title (2007). After reestablishing a new major record label and same-named broadcaster in BiH OTV Valentino, he changed the publisher in the middle of 2008 and moved to Valentino Records. Here, he recorded two albums: Dar mar (2010) and Žaoka (2012). Then he moved to Grand Production and released the album Hakala (2015); he has stayed in Grand since.
He has recently released two singles with music videos: "Sanjanka" (December 2015; self-release)[2] and "Samo se pojavi" (August 2019; Grand Production).[3]
Hakala gives concerts in Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in addition to those in the Western Balkans – because a large number of Bosnian and Herzegovinian migrants is present in these countries and they want to hear his songs and remember their past.
Private life[edit]
Hakala is married as of 1991 and has three daughters with his wife.
