History
2005-2006; Debut, New Members, Debut Album
In 2005, Starfish Entertainment was just starting; they were looking to debut their first Japanese boy group. They looked for many trainees around the world. Their main focus was in Japan.
They officially debuted with nine members with the song “Just A Little Bit,” which was very famous in Japan.
Some trainees were too young to debut at the time, but members Asuka and Sana debuted a month after the group’s debut, while Asuka debuted three months after the group’s debut. Four months after that, they came back with their debut album “Fire” with the hit track “Freek-A-Leek.”
When 2006 arrived, they came back with a new member, Ayumu, with the song “Won’t Be Long.” Five months after their legendary comeback, they dropped their 1st Mini Album “Can’t Sleep” with the title track “Can’t Sleep, Can’t Eat.”
2007-2009; New Album, New Members, Breakout Single, New Members
Before they came back, a new member joined the group, Arata.
They came back with their comeback album “日本” with the title track “La La La.”
In 2008, Sana went on hiatus when he went on a break to go back with his family for a little bit. He returned after six months.
In 2009, they dropped their breakout single “Ring Ding Dong.”
After the breakout single, new member Riku was added to the group.
2010-2011; Comeback Album, New Member, Japanese Tour
In the beginning of 2010, they started their first Japanese tour titled “SuperStars,” with the tour being named that throughout 2010-2013.
In the middle of 2010, they came back with their song “Lucifer.”
Shortly after, they dropped their 3rd album “A New Wave” with the title track “You Drive Me Crazy.”
In 2011, a new member, Haruto, joined the group when they came back with the song “Heads Up.”
2012-2013; Ashino & Kaito’s Departure, Sexy Love, Japanese Tour Number9, Subunit Activities
In the beginning of 2012, members Ashino & Kaito decided not to renew their contracts with the group, so their departures were announced a day after their debut anniversary date.
For their summer comeback, they released their song “Sexy Love,” which was their 10th best-selling song.
They came back with the mini album “Catch Me” with the title track of the same name.
In 2012, all the members were put into special subunits and were all active throughout 2012.
November 23, 2013, members Riku and Haruto were rushed to the hospital after being T-boned on the road by a drunk driver. They could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The funeral was held a week later.
After the accident, the group started their hiatus; it was announced that all members except Daiki would be returning to their subunits for the very last time. Daiki was unable to return after his contract being terminated by the company.
2014: The Scandal, Minato’s Removal, Official Comeback
In the beginning of 2014, news got out that a famous J-Pop Idol was affiliated with a dangerous street gang. In the summer, news got out that it was member Minato. He was arrested four months later.
After a three-year hiatus, they came back with the hit single “Mamacita.” It was their first song since their indefinite hiatus in 2011.
In summer 2014, SOULGIRLS were the featured artist on the official remix. They performed it on Nihonboys’ 4th Japan tour.
2018-2019; Comeback, Disbandment
In 2018, after four years, they came back with the song “DOPE.” The song spent four weeks at the No.1 spot.
After their Dope era, Nihonboys’ activities were coming to an end. In 2019, Starfish released a statement that members C.Zhao, Akiara, and Arata graduated from the group.
The group disbanded on June 4th, 2019, with only three remaining members.
