Nikko TooGood (also known as Nikko Toogood and Nikko D. TooGood) is an entrepreneur and publicist known for founding and curating the Black Authors Matter Tour, a literary initiative focused on promoting Black authors, increasing literary representation, and creating opportunities for writers to present their work to wider audiences.[1][2]

Early professional activities

TooGood has described an early interest in publicity, entrepreneurship, and helping individuals develop their professional visibility. In an interview with Shoutout Atlanta, TooGood explained that the Black Authors Matter Book Tour originated from receiving requests from authors seeking public relations assistance who could not afford traditional publicity retainers.[1]

The initiative was developed as an alternative platform for authors to promote their publications, reach new readers, and participate in literary events. TooGood described the project as an effort to support African American authors and increase the visibility of their work.[2]

In a January 2022 interview with writer Dr. Pamela Gurley, TooGood discussed the development of the initiative, the importance of representation in publishing, and plans for expanding literary opportunities for Black writers.[2]

Black Authors Matter Tour

The Black Authors Matter Tour is a literary initiative founded and curated by TooGood. Its activities have included author promotion, book tours, literary networking, and programmes intended to encourage reading and writing.

The initiative aims to provide established and emerging Black authors with opportunities to introduce their publications to wider audiences and participate in literary and cultural events.[1][2]

According to its LinkedIn organization profile, the Black Authors Matter Tour was established in 2018 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The organization describes its focus as African American literature and author promotion.[3]

Literary promotion and literacy

In interviews, TooGood has discussed the importance of increasing the visibility of Black literary voices and creating opportunities for authors who may have limited access to traditional publicity services.

The initiative has also emphasized children's and young adult literature, literacy development, and opportunities for emerging writers to connect with educational and literary communities.[1][2]

International activities

South Africa and Botswana, 2022

In August 2022, the Black Authors Matter Tour announced an international literary programme scheduled for 14–23 September 2022 in South Africa and Botswana. The announced itinerary included Johannesburg, Gaborone, and Kasane.[4]

The programme was designed to introduce participating authors to international audiences and create opportunities for cultural and literary exchange. The announcement also described a partnership with TEDx University of South Africa and the participation of African American authors.[4]

The tour received subsequent coverage in Botswana Daily News on 23 September 2022. The newspaper reported on activities in Mochudi, where participating authors engaged with secondary-school students and discussed storytelling, publishing, and the development of writing skills.

The report identified TooGood as the founder of Black Authors Matter and quoted TooGood discussing plans to develop connections with Botswana-based writers and promote their work internationally.[5]

Professional affiliations

Forbes Business Council

In June 2023, a press release distributed by The Black Authors Matter Tour announced that TooGood had been accepted into Forbes Business Council, a business networking community operated by Forbes Councils.[6]

The announcement described the selection as based on professional experience and business achievements. The announcement was issued by the organization rather than an independent news report.[6]

Media and public appearances

TooGood has participated in interviews and media discussions concerning entrepreneurship, publicity, literary promotion, and the development of the Black Authors Matter Tour.

In August 2020, TooGood appeared as a guest on an episode of Herspiration Happy Hour titled Pushing Past Fear, where the programme identified TooGood as a publicist and curator of Black Authors Matter.[7]

Online presence

The Black Authors Matter Tour maintains an online presence through its official website and professional social media channels. Its organization profile on LinkedIn identifies Atlanta as its headquarters and describes its focus on African American literature.[3]
