Niko Porikos (born May 4th, 1993) is an Entrepreneur and American Ice Hockey player for the University of Michigan[1] of the Big Ten Conference (B1G).[2]. Porikos has started small businesses throughout his teenage years, and has branched out in to different ventures throughout his early twenties.[3][4]

Playing Career[edit]

Porikos was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan[5]where he played hockey and soccer for local travel and AAA teams growing up. His father was a professional soccer player, but Porikos opted out of soccer to pursue his hockey career.[6]He started playing hockey at eight years of age, taking a long path from house hockey in Ann Arbor, to end up in AAA Hockey playing for Belle Tire and Victory Honda.[7][8]Porikos then decided to go play Juniors in Hamilton, Ontario for the Hamilton Red Wings[9][10][11]of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.[12]. After spending a year in Hamilton he was selected in the United States Hockey League (USHL) Draft by the Fargo Force. Porikos finished his Junior Hockey career in Hamilton where he led all defensemen in points with 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists) in 51 games. From there he moved on to fulfil his dream of playing hockey for the Wolverines[13] in his hometown of Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. He got the opportunity to play under coaches Red Berenson and Mel Pearson. Porikos finished his career at Michigan and was able to win the following championships in his four years there, and finished off his senior year playing in the NCAA frozen four tournament.[14][15]

Academics[edit]

Porikos attended Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 2007 to 2011. He then attended the University of Michigan[23] from 2014 to 2018 where he graduated with a Bachelors Associate in International Studies with a double minor in Entrepreneurship and Greek. He also received a Cappo Sales and Marketing certificate from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and was selected as a member of the University’s Entrepreneurs Leadership Program (ELP). He received University Honors for his GPA in 2016.[24]

Business[edit]

Porikos has been a serial entrepreneur since the age of twelve where he started buying and selling items online to flip a profit. From there he started his own business repairing and customizing iPhones and iPads gaining popularity from celebrities, corporations, and other customers from all over the world. From there he decided to launch his next business ITough [25] Accessories selling premium iPhone accessories. He has been featured in Forbes, INC Magazine, and Thrive Global for his success. He now helps other startups and small businesses grow and develop through his consulting for ecommerce websites and social media marketing.[26]

Personal Life[edit]

Porikos is an only child and was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan[27] to his father Perry Porikos, and mother Georgia Porikos. His father Perry, a Greek immigrant is a restaurateur and was once a collegiate and professional soccer player. His mother Georgia, also grew up in Ann Arbor where she played basketball at Pioneer High School and is now a real estate agent. His family was home to multiple USA Hockey players billeting for the National Team Development Program (NTDP) where he grew up with hockey stars around the house from a young age.
