Nikola Krulj (born 31 January 2002) is a Bosnian filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor. He is known for directing short films such as The Hammer (2023), Blind Mind (2023), and Fly High Mono (2024), as well as his upcoming project #45. His works often explore themes of perception, identity, and the human condition through experimental and animated storytelling.
Early life and education
Nikola Krulj was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 January 2002. He studied at the Academy of Arts, University of Banja Luka, where he specialized in film directing and editing. During his studies, Krulj began making short films in which he frequently served as writer, director, and editor.
Career
Krulj gained international attention with his short film The Hammer (2023), which won the Public Choice Award at the Lift-Off Sessions in London.[1] He followed with Blind Mind (2023), a psychological short officially selected at Kinovertikal – International Festival and Competition for Films Directed by Children and Young Adults in Saratov, Russia.[2] In 2024, his animated short Fly High Mono received the Best Student Film Award at the Future of Film Awards in Ohrid and was screened at several student film festivals in the Balkans.[3] Krulj’s upcoming project, #45 (2025), continues his exploration of surrealism and introspection.
