Nikos Karouzos: poems on the tape recorder
'Nikos Karouzos: poems on the tape recorder' (Greek: Νίκος Καρούζος: ο δρόμος για το έαρ) is a 2020 Greek hybrid-genre essay film.[1] about the life of poet Nikos Karouzos and his relation to tormented by history, post-war Greece [2].
Plot[edit]
Left-wing and Christian, hermit and an alcoholic, damned poet Nikos Karouzos is the central figure of this hybrid-genre feature. In this essay film about a documentary, the viewer is taken through the Athenian urban landscape, the editing room, prison island of Makronissos, Stockholm and Kronstadt, following a frustrated researcher in a journey through time to restore the collective memory of Greece’s most underrated poet and his tumultuous times through pictures, celluloid and testimonies. A story about life and death, about Greece’s troubled post-war history, and about the advent of Spring.

Interpretation[edit]
According to the director of the film [3] the production team worked in order to create a hybrid-genre movie that would delve into the poet's life through various filmic introspections. In direct dialogue with the work of Nikos Karouzos the film tries to represent the relation between an artwork and its medial languages.
According to Greek critic Christos Skylakos [4], the film does not center around the question "who is Karouzos?" but "why Karouzos" by showing the political, historical and personal events that formed the poet.
Reception[edit]
The film made its world premiere in Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in 2020[5] and received the First-Time Director Award from the Greek Film Centre[6]. Also, it was the first Greek film among the works that was sold-out at the festival [7]
