Nilesh Ved (born November 1, 1970) is an Indian business magnate and investor who serves as the chairman and owner of Apparel Group. He is considered one of the most successful businessmen in the GCC region and is one of the wealthiest people in the United Arab Emirates.[3][4]
Early life and education[edit]
Ved was raised in Oman and UAE. Since his early days, he was highly influenced by the North American retail environment and fashion labels available in the international market, eventually graduating from the Boston university in 1988 with a business degree in finance and international business.[5] He had a dream of bringing trendy fashion brands of the west to the middle-east which he considered a promising market for retail at the time.[6] It was from there on that he envisioned Apparel Group and aimed to provide the Middle Eastern consumers a global fashion retail experience.
Business career[edit]
Under the leadership of Ved, Apparel Group initiated its journey in 1997 by launching its first 3 stores of Ninewest, with its first exclusive store in Lamcy Plaza. Building a firm ground-work with the first three stores and developing the right people, processes and tools, he then consummated the next phase by absorbing other international brands like ALDO, Charles & Keith, Nine West, Tommy Hilfiger, Juicy Couture, Tim Hortons, and more whilst launching stores in every key location across the GCC.[7] Starting with just one brand in 1999, Today, the apparel group boasts 50 stores and more than 40 international brands.[8][9]
Personal life[edit]
Nilesh Ved is married to Sima Ved, who is also the Vice Chairperson and Founder of Apparel Group.[10] They have two daughters, Selina and Sarisha and a son, Nayaan.[11]
