Nina Gladitz

Nina Gladitz (* 1946 in Schwäbisch Gmünd) is a German director and author.

Early Life

Nina Gladitz was born in 1946 in Schwäbisch Gmünd as the oldest daughter of five siblings. Her father was the engineer and owner of a lamp factory.

Education and early Career

She apprenticed and later studied set design at the Heidelberg Theatre, where she met the director Klaus Peymann and befriended actor Otto Sander. She then decided against the theatre in favor of studying film at the Film- und Fernsehhochschule München. Her graduation film at the Hff was a documentary about the fate of Greek exchange workers in Germany and their lost hopes for integration, as well as the hostility by many German citizens.

Filmmaking

Her film "Lieber heute aktiv als morgen Radioaktiv“ ("Better Active Today Than Radioactive Tomorrow") brought her worldwide acclaim. It was shown on eleven prints all over Germany, but also distributed in the US, Australia, France and Japan.
