Nishinippon Business Forum

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

“Nishinippon Business Forum” (NBF, 西日本国際ビジネスフォーラム) is a self-supporting, nonpolitical think tank based in Fukuoka, Japan.

Since 2013, the organization members, including representatives of various countries, firms, press and societies, meets in Fukuoka on an annual basis. This reunion represents the climax of this permanent debate. On this occasion, members exchange information about their business, based on their own experiences and discuss various issues, mainly related to the role of Western Japan at international level and the relationships between Japan and other countries, especially Italy.

In 2018 the Forum was held for the first time in Rome, Italy with the collaboration of the Japanese Embassy in Rome.

Starting from the 2020 conference, the meeting changes its name to 'Forum Italia Japan' in order to better reflect the nature, the no longer regional vocation, and the function of initiative whose main purpose is to help free dialogue between Italy and Japan.

Goals[edit]

The Forum aims to encourage dialogues among country members, to strengthen trade, institutional and cultural relations and, as well, to closely watch the Asian geopolitical scenario, in order to build new relations between high-level decision makers.

Meetings take place every year, as a gathering place of opinions about topics of general interests.

Members, who participate at the Forum, are delegates from Japanese, Italian and international institutions and firms interested in strengthening the dialogue between the countries (especially Japan and Italy) and creating new opportunities of business and partnerships for the development of their own country’s economy.

Genesis and structure[edit]

The Nishinippon Business Forum was founded by Daniele Di Santo, currently president of the Japan Italy Economic Federation (JIEF).

As well as the usual conference about ‘’Perspectives and scenarios for new international synergies’’, some activities of the forum cover firm-related tasks, institutional meetings and publishing of documents and report regarding the annual topics.

During the 6th edition, the Forum focused on the Japan-EU Economic Trade Agreement (EPA), signed in 2018 and will be enacted in 2019. This agreement will be a major step forward in trade between Italy and Japan because it will eliminate customs duties and import restrictions on some categories of products.

Location[edit]

Since South-western Japan acquired a dominant role on regional dynamics, due to its strategic position in the East-Asian Area, Fukuoka grants a matchless lookout on perspectives and scenarios that come from new international synergies.

Media partnerships[edit]

Media partners at the events are AGI (Italian Journalist Agency), Kyodo News, the Italian press agency Dire and the historic Japanese newspaper Nishinippon Shimbun.

Supporters[edit]

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (M.O.F.A), Ministry of Economy Trade, Industry of Japan (M.E.T.I), Ministry Of Economic Development of Italy (M.I.S.E), Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), Kyushu Office SME Support Japan, The Italo Oriental Chamber of Commerce, Fukuoka Prefecture, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Fukuoka Foreign Trade Association are the main supporters of the event.

Forum Italia Giappone ("Italy Japan Forum") is a self-supporting think tank annually organized by the Japan Italy Economic Federation (JIEF), with the purpose to promote the political, economic and cultural interactions between Italy and Japan.

Born in 2013 as Nishinippon Business Forum, the meeting changed its name to the current one in 2020, during the 8th edition, intending to better reflect its main function of support to free dialogue between Italy and Japan.[1]

Goals[edit]

The event brings together authorities and delegates from the political, institutional and business environments of both countries, and attempts to offer opportunities for discussion on the current dynamics, so to encourage the collaboration of the participants on projects and initiatives.[2][3]

Conferences[edit]

First edition (2020)[edit]

The first Forum Italia Giappone was held in Fukuoka on 30 October 2020 under the patronage of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren). In line with the measures imposed by the COVID-19 emergency, the event took place as a hybrid meeting, with some authorities gathered together in person, and other guests, delegates of the government and representatives of institutions attending remotely.[4][5]

The Forum covered the analysis of scenarios and perspectives for new synergies between Italy and Japan. More specifically, the meeting focused on the post-pandemic era and the new opportunities of interaction that it may offer, especially in the fields of technological innovation and green economy.[6][7]
