Niteroiense Futebol Clube is a Brazilian football club based in the city of Niterói, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The club was originally founded on May 11, 1913, as Nictheroyense Football Club, and played an important role in the early development of football in the region.[1]
After professional activities ceased in 1980, the club was reactivated in 2024 when the Clube Atlético Carioca transferred its affiliation to Niteroiense, allowing the club to return to professional competitions.[2]
History
The club was one of the founding members of the Liga Sportiva Fluminense in 1915. It won the Fluminense State Championship in 1918 and the Niterói City Championship in 1937.[1]
In 1943, its name was officially changed to Niteroiense Futebol Clube, aligning with the orthographic reform that changed the city's name from Nictheroy to Niterói. The club stopped professional activities in 1980 due to financial and structural challenges.[3]
In 2024, Niteroiense returned to professional football through the transfer of Atlético Carioca's registration with the state federation.[2]
The club won the 2024 Campeonato Carioca Série C and earned promotion after defeating Campos in the semifinals and Uni Souza in the final.[4][5]
In 2025, the club debuted in the Copa Rio, drawing 0–0 against America in their first-ever home game at the CEFAT training center in Niterói.[6][7]
Stadium
Historically, the club had its own pitch on Rua Santa Clara in the Ponta d’Areia neighborhood. Currently, the club trains at the Concha Acústica and plays official matches at the CEFAT training center, with a capacity of 1,000 spectators.[6]
