Search No Straight Roads on Amazon. No Straight Roads is a music-based action-adventure video game developed by Malaysian-based independent studio Metronomik and published by Sold-Out Software.[1] It is scheduled to be released in 2020 for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows.[2][3][4]

Gameplay[edit]

No Straight Roads is a music-focused action-adventure game where they are elements of Rhythm games without the strict timing and precision of the beat while controlling your character. You play as the heroes of the game, Mayday and Zuke, members of Bunk Bed Junction and your task is to defeat all the artists who make the NSR, the titular main villains of the game, to free Vinyl City from their control.

Plot[edit]

The game is set in the fictional Vinyl City where NSR (No Straight Roads), an evil mega corporation and empire of EDM, has taken over its music scene and even clubs. NSR will exclusively allow their own music to be performed in shows. Indie rock band Bunk Bed Junction, consisting of guitarist Mayday and drummer Zuke, who must battle NSR's artists to release the city from their grasp.

Development[edit]

It's the debut game of Metronomik, founded by Wan Hazmer, lead designer of Final Fantasy XV and Diam Dziauddin, concept artist for Street Fighter V. Their goals for the project are to reinforce the role and importance of audio in a video game without turning it into a rhythm game, and to tell a story about opposing musical ideals through powerful, vivid visual elements.[5] Some their influences in terms of video games are Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and Nier: Automata.[4]

Reception[edit]

Pre-release[edit]

The game has received awards such as the Best Audio Indie Award at Taipei Game Show 2019.[2] The others are the Indie Game Excellence Award from 4Gamer.net and the Grand Jury Award at the LEVEL UP KL Southeast Asia Game Awards 2018.
